The Amana Colonies Trail, a 20-mile loop linking the villages on Highways 220, 151 and 6, is part of the new Iowa River Valley Scenic Byway. To discover other historic communities including Iowa's only settlement of Native Americans, the
Mesqwaki, follow the winding Iowa River on Hwy 30 east of Marshalltown to county road T47, south to Montour. Follow E49 east to Tama, and E64 south and east to V18 through Chelsea. Follow E66 east to Belle Plaine (Lincoln Highway enthusiasts will enjoy this) and Hwy 21 south to Hwy 212 into Marengo. Traveling east on county road F15 north of Marengo will bring you to historic West Amana and Hwy 220.

Located 30 miles west of the Amana Colonies
is the home of our nation's 31st president,
Herbert Hoover. Visit the changing
exhibits at the Herbert Hoover Presidential
Library/Museum and National Historic
Site. Another must see is Hoover's
birthplace cottage, his father's blacksmith
shop, Quaker Meeting House and the grave
sites of both President and Mrs.
Hoover.
